Last few weeks, you practiced the designs. It was a really good try. I saw some fabulous cakes made by you. I think you might get enough experienced and well-prepared yourself for the practical assessment. I'm looking forward to your masterpieces.

This week, you need to do the plan for the create stage which is also the practical assessment. In you plan, you should provide
1) An introduction (use min. 100 words to summarize the work in plan)
2) A list of ingredients and kitchen equipment (include name and amount of the materials)
3) A detailed time plan (show steps, the use of time and resources and manner of food hygiene and kitchen safety)
4) A plan evaluation (use 100-500 words to evaluate the effectiveness of the plan, justify any modification made to the final design, talk about the food hygiene and kitchen safety....)

You are remained to put following things in the header of the plan,
the school name "VSA", the name of subject "Food Technology",
the name of the project "Care for the needy",
the name of the stage "Plan Stage",

This week, you have to prepare a product test plan based on design specification. Your product test plan can be a self check list, a questionnaire and an experiment.

Please be reminded that
a) you should test your product against all the design specification.
b) you should also state the aim of the product test is to see whether the product meets the design specifications and judge the product is successful or not.
c) you should also state clearly how you determine if your product is success or not. eg The product will be regarded as success if 70% 0f the criteria are checked as a yes.

Dear all,

Design Brief and Design Specification

This week, you can develop your design brief and design specification according to your research.

In your design brief, please state and explain the type of cakes you intend to make. You have to mention who will be the cakes for. You need to explain why you make this kind of cakes to solve the problem. Link your decisions to your research.

Your design specification must be precise and accurate. Do not just list some design specifications.
A detailed description of the conditions, requirements and restrictions with which a design must comply. This is a precise and accurate list of facts such as conditions, dimensions, materials, process and methods that are important for the designer and for the user. All appropriate solutions will need to comply with the design specification. You should provide at least 8 design specifications.

May I remind all of you the conditions, requirements and restrictions in the practical lessons.
1) You have to make the healthy cakes by yourself only.
2) You have to make the cakes within 110 minutes(including washing time).
3) The upper limit of temperature of the oven is 250 degree celcius.
4) The largest size of cake tin is 8 inches(diameters).


For Year 8 Trust students, you have to do the product test plan as well. Please state the ways to test if the product meet the design specifications, eg. observation, experiment, survey, etc. you can also create a check list for the product test plan.
